Addiction/Addictive Behaviors
Addiction is not limited to biochemical substances such as alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, inhalants, or nicotine. It is increasingly possible for people to experience behavioral addictions. Activities such as gambling, eating, pornography, social media, and playing video games are particularly conducive to addiction because they provide the opportunity for immediate reward. Addiction and addictive behaviors often cover up an underlying mental health issue. At REMEDIUM we will establish an individualized treatment plan that will address the underlying issue, teach healthy ways of coping, and promote sobriety.
Anger Management
Anger related issues are characterized by failure to cope with anger in a healthy way. Some symptoms include: rage, constant irritability, anxiety, feeling overwhelmed, or thoughts of wanting to hurt yourself or others. Anger itself is not pathological if harnessed and expressed in a constructive manner. At REMEDIUM we will identify the underlying cause of your anger and establish a treatment plan that will help you understand, express, and manage your anger in a practical and productive way.
Anxiety
Occasional anxiety is a normal part of life. You might feel anxious when faced with a problem at work, before taking a test, or making an important decision. But anxiety disorders involve more than temporary worry or fear. For a person with an anxiety disorder the anxiousness does not go away, can get worse over time, and often interferes with daily activities. There are several different types of anxiety disorders, the most common ones include: generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder. At REMEDIUM we will identify the cause of your anxiety and establish a treatment plan that will give immediate relief to your anxious symptoms and offer long-term techniques and solutions to manage in healthy ways.
Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder
Constantly wandering off task, a lack of persistence when completing tasks, and difficulty sustaining focus and organization are all patterns of inattention. Excessive fidgeting and talking, especially in situations in which it is not appropriate, are patterns of hyperactivity. When these problems, which often interfere with daily functioning or development, are not due to defiance or lack of comprehension it is possible that ADHD is the cause.
At REMEDIUM we will first rule out other diagnoses that may cause ADHD: anxiety, depression, sleep problems, excessive caffeine, etc. An individualized treatment plan will be established to sustain focus and concentration, maximize efficiency and productivity, and to promote time management.
Autism
Autism spectrum disorder comprises a wide range of symptoms involving behavior, communication, and social skills. ASD includes a wide range, “a spectrum,” of symptoms, skills, and levels of disability. Those with ASD often have these characteristics:
Ongoing social problems that include difficulty communicating and interacting with others
Repetitive behaviors as well as limited interests or activities
Symptoms that typically are recognized in the first two years of life
Symptoms that hurt the individual’s ability to function socially, at school or work, or other areas of life
Some people are mildly impaired by their symptoms, while others are severely disabled. Treatments and services can improve a person’s symptoms and ability to function
At REMEDIUM we will establish a treatment plan to resolve all mood symptoms and optimize function. Referrals for additional support groups and/or therapeutic interventions are available, in addition to advocacy for services needed in school systems and other social structures.
Bipolar Spectrum
Bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depressive, is a brain disorder that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, and activity levels. These mood episodes, which range from periods of feeling very “up” and erratic to very “down” and hopeless, interfere with the ability to function in day-to-day tasks/life. At REMEDIUM we will stabilize your mood, erratic feelings, and sleep habits. We will establish a treatment plan that will maximize your function and allow you to understand and be in control by your feelings.
Depression
Depression is a common but serious mood disorder that affects how you feel, think, and handle daily activities. It is caused by a combination of genetic, biological, environmental, and psychological factors. Common symptoms include persistent sadness, feelings of hopelessness or emptiness, a loss of interest in the activities once enjoyed, decreased energy, feelings of guilt, worthlessness, difficulty concentrating, poor sleep quality, poor diet and eating habits, thoughts of death, suicide, or suicide attempts, and/or physical aches or pains without a clear physical cause. At REMEDIUM we will establish a treatment plan to resolve your symptoms and promote self-care, awareness, and empowerment. We will explore the origin of your feelings, help you understand them, and get you back to your optimal functioning.
Eating Disorder
Eating disorders are serious illnesses that can be fatal if not addressed. Common symptoms include restricting food and calories, overeating and/or eating until feeling sick, throwing up after eating or overeating. Obsessions with food, body weight and shape may also signal an eating disorder. At REMEDIUM we will establish an individualized treatment plan that will explore and stabilize your symptoms. We will help you foster a healthy view of your body, a healthy relationship with food and will work to instill a confidence that will bolster your self-image/acceptance.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
OCD is a common, chronic and long-lasting disorder in which a person has uncontrollable, reoccurring thoughts (obsessions) and behaviors (compulsions) that he or she feels the urge to repeat over and over. Some individuals with OCD may have a tic disorder (motor or vocal), hoarding disorder, hair-pulling, or skin-picking. Symptoms may come and go, ease over time, or worsen. At REMEDIUM we will establish a treatment plan that will stabilize and resolve your symptoms. A specific therapeutic modality (CBT) may be used to help patients deal with anxieties related to obsessions and compulsions, to diminish and ultimately resolve symptoms completely.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
PTSD is a disorder that may develop in some people who have experienced a traumatic situation. Not everyone who has experienced PTSD has been through a dangerous event. Some experiences, like the unexpected death of a loved one, can also cause PTSD. Nightmares and flashbacks, trouble sleeping, avoidance behaviors and edginess can be some of the many symptoms. It is also common for people with PTSD to self-medicate which can lead to worse problems. At REMEDIUM we will establish a treatment plan that will stabilize your symptoms and promote insight, acceptance, peace, and freedom from your traumatic experiences.
